Repression: An Extensive Settlement to Create a Political Reality Serving the Enemy, But No Settlement or Judaizing Can Put an End to Our Right

Al Intiqad, By Ahmad Shaito

The government of the "Israeli" Occupation is racing time to change the reality of the sacred City and the West Bank in occupied Palestine. The Occupation authorities do not miss a chance to announce new plans or initiate the execution of previous plans, some of which aim at attracting more settlers to change the demographic reality of occupied Al Quds (Jerusalem), whereas some

others aim at dissecting the West Bank and ensuring communication between the settlements. Whether the Occupation authorities seek achieving the first aim or the other, it seems clear that all plans serve the same purpose: sustaining the ravishment of Palestine and altering this into an evident reality that is unchangeable once the originally dead agreement negotiations are continued.
Recently, the "settlement maneuver" has shown clear features; it concentrates on plans to judaize Al Quds, which have been announced by the so-called "Planning and Construction Committees" and have been ratified by Benjamin Netanyahu's government.
Although the Occupation has been persistently following the settlement policy since it has been coercively implanted in occupied Palestine, the ascending rate of settlement actions has been a phenomenon during Netanyahu's governorship, particularly recently, whereby this phenomenon has appeared at a time Gaza Strip is cannonaded, the Arabic peoples are occupied with revolutions, and there is regional and international disregard.

Projects and Dangers

The dangers of the new settlement wave can be noted through the presentation of the newest projects, whereby only a few days ago, the so-called ‘Planning and Construction Committee of the Regiment' has ratified the scheme of constructing 900 residential blocks in the southern part of Gilo Settlement that lies on the lands of eastern Al Quds. The scheme states that these residential units should be built facing the Palestinian Welja Village, and it is called the ‘Southern West Slopes of Gilo Settlement'.
Such ratification has been issued after the ratification of a construction scheme of 942 residential settlement blocks at the same settlement in accordance with the 13261st settlement, called the ‘Southern East Slopes Project'.

The danger of both schemes lies in continuing the "residential" extension that aims at judaizing Al Quds and eventually creating a Jewish majority at its western and eastern divisions.
Specialized Palestinian reports affirm that the "Israeli" Occupation has set plans to extend the Jewish neighborhoods in eastern Al Quds at the expense of the Palestinian presence and in absolute contradiction with the rules of the International Law and the resolution of the International Court of Justice as respects the Wall in Al Quds.

Furthermore, the Occupation seeks to accomplish settlement projects aiming at the technical and architectural prohibition of the extension of Arabic neighborhoods at the center of Al Quds, whereby the ‘Planning and Construction Committee of the Regiment' in Al Quds has ratified a scheme to establish a ‘national park' on the eastern slopes of Zeitoun (Olives) Mountain. The ‘park' is to be built on the lands of Aleissawiyah and Toor Towns, and it connects Al Quds to the settlement scheme close to ‘Maali Adumim Settlement'.
‘Haaretz' Newspaper has reported, "The Construction and Planning Committee of Jerusalem, which is relative to the Ministry of the Interior, will consider the construction of 1608 new buildings beyond the Green Line, among which is the construction of a new neighborhood in ‘Har Houma Settlement' on Mount Abu Ghneim in southern Jerusalem. The neighborhood is to include 983 buildings. The Committee will also consider the construction of 625 buildings at ‘Besgat Zaïf Settlement' north of the City."

The Palestinian researcher, Jaber Suleiman, has told ‘Alintiqad' that "the prime danger not only lies in the new projects, but also it lies in the settlement principle that is rooted in the Zionist creed, which has been built on ravishing the land and expelling the Palestinians. Ben Gurion stressed that, saying, ‘the Zionist creed cannot be enlivened without settlement'."
The Palestinian researcher emphasizes that ever since the ‘Peace Process', the settlement has been multiplied several times. This affirms that "Israel" is exploiting such process to deceive the international community and the Arabs.

The Settlement Multiplication

What Jaber says meets what has been exposed in a report issued by the ‘Palestinian Statistics Center'; it affirms that the number of ‘residential blocks' of the "Israeli Settlements" built in 2010 has been multiplied four times than the number of the ‘blocks' built in 2009. Besides, the report has mentioned that the percentage of Palestinians among the "Israeli residents" is 47.9% and that they use 15% of the land area!

As Jaber exposes the judaizing settlement projects and procedures in Al Quds and its surroundings, he points out what follows:

- There is an extremely dangerous process of judaizing Al Quds, and this is worthy of a serious stance.
- There are intensive settlement processes in Al Quds and its surroundings, and this has been confirmed by the plans announced lately.

- Methodized dislodging processes are taking place, in addition to the deprivation of Arabic identities and issuing discriminative laws that aim at emptying Al Quds of its people.

- The Zionist authorities are trying to make the Palestinians a minority in Al Quds through judaizing it and in the eastern side of the City by creating circumstances on earth that discourage them to stay and participate in their dislodging.

Jaber sees that "the Arabs and Muslims are required to take counter-actions in order to support practically the people of Al Quds through fixing the buildings about to collapse, maintaining the Arabic heritage, and making up for the fines that the Occupation authorities impose on the civilians."

Moreover, Jaber says that "it is required that the steadfastness of the Palestinian people be supported through viable projects, supporting the infrastructure of the Arabic City with the Arabic majority, and supporting the daily steadfastness of people because "Israel" is blackmailing the Palestinians with services. Thus, it is required that procedures be taken to help the Palestinians face the punishments imposed by the Occupation and to help them maintain their stance at confronting the Judaization."

As for the prominent leader of the ‘Islamic Resistance Movement', Khaled Albatsh, he has informed ‘Alintiqad' of his Movement's stance against settlement which is a foundation for the Zionist project. He has said, "Firstly, we consider that the Zionist enemy and entity constitute in the first place a settlement project based on expelling the Palestinians out of their land in Al Quds and the West Bank, for the Zionist settlement on the land of Palestine expels the people to replace it with a new one. This serves the creation of a Zionist demographic balance facing the ‘increasing growth rate of the Palestinian residents and bringing settlers from all over the world to the land of Palestine'."

He has continued, "Focusing on Al Quds and its surroundings when it comes to the settlement projects, including the recent ones, lies in the context of preparing the atmosphere for a political solution accepted by the Arabs through a political process based on political exchange."
Batsh has ended his word with, "We who belong to the Islamic Jihad Movement reiterate that Palestine altogether is the land of Palestinians, and we refuse their expulsion out of it. Our right to maintain Palestine can't be terminated by settlement or Judaization. Our right can't be restricted with settlement growth."
