Sabra and Shatila Massacre... A 29 Year-Old Scar

By Al-Ahed News
"Another child lay on the roadway like a discarded doll, her white dress stained with mud and dust. She could have been no more than three years old. The back of her head had been blown away by a bullet fired into her brain. One of the women also held a tiny baby to her body. The bullet that had passed into her breast had killed the baby too. Someone had slit open the woman's stomach, cutting sideways and then upwards, perhaps trying to kill her unborn child. Her eyes were wide open, her dark face frozen in horror."
No, this is not a script written for a horror film of Hollywood, but a quote extracted from Robert Fisk's writings, one of the western correspondents who investigated Sabra and Shatila massacre back in September 1982.
The massacre against the population of the refugee camp was a heartrending closure to "Israel's" 1982 invasion of Lebanon, which "Israel" executed with an American approval as a plan to establish a Lebanese government subjected to its interests.
"Israel" entirely surrounded the camps of Sabra and Shatila, monitoring everyone's entry or exit. During the late afternoon of 15 September, "Israeli" forces bombarded the camps claiming that PLO fighters remained there.
Next day afternoon, "Israel" accompanied by its Lebanese allies entered the camp and for the next 36 to 48 hours, massacred, raped, tortured, and killed countless numbers of Lebanese and Palestinian inhabitants.
No exact number of victims was precisely known, it has always varied between 700 and 3500.
Now that 29 years have passed, Palestinians and their Lebanese fellows commemorate this unpleasant memorial, to remind the world of the agony they suffered and still, for maybe one day, justice for the victims would triumph over malevolence.

Maybe One Day
Brothers, The struggle for justice is worldwide. When the Palestinian people suffer, WE suffer. When you seek the truth, you will find it. In 2002 when I first walked the alleys of Sabra and Chatila I searched for answers. I found what I was looking for. The struggle for justice is also my struggle. Yes, one day justice will come. By whatever means necessary. Sam Dunlap Temecula, CA U.S.A.- Related News
