War Crime vs War Crime… West Eying Riches Exploitation

After 42 years of tyrannical rule over the oppressed people of Libya, and nine months of run and hit operations that took place between Gaddafi's loyalists and the National Transitional Council forces, Muammar Gaddafi lied sinking in his own blood in his own hometown Sirte. Libyans as well as many other people celebrated his end on the 20th of October 2011, as he was shot dead and eventually paid the price for the tremendous war crimes he had committed against his own people.
Since the time he seized power in a military coup in 1969, and the Libyans started their four decade suffering journey.
"Picasso of Middle East Politics" wrote his Green Book, made his own constitution that turned the life of Libyans into hell.
Legal penalties included collective punishment, death for anyone who spread theories aiming to change the constitution and life imprisonment for disseminating information that tarnished the country's reputation.Tales abounded of torture, lengthy jail terms without a fair trial, executions and disappearances.
Still, crimes of Gaddafi do not justify the brutal killing of the deposed dictator, be it the Nato strikes that targeted his convoy or the brutality of the Libyan forces on ground. The way Gaddafi was killed makes them nothing but savages who stand in the ranks of criminals too.
According to a US war official, a U.S. Predator drone was involved in the airstrike on Muammar Qaddafi's convoy Thursday in the moments before his death. The official told the Fox news that the drone, along with a French fighter jet, fired on the "large convoy" leaving Qaddafi's hometown of Sirte, assuring red-handedness of the West in this brutal crime.
Yet, US President Barack Obama and other officials would not elaborate on the circumstances of Gaddafi's death. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said only that U.S. and NATO actions helped Libyans reach this point.
Obama pointed to the end of the Gaddafi regime as the close of a "long and painful chapter" for Libyans and defended the multilateral mission which began in March.
"Today we can definitively say that the Gaddafi regime has come to an end," Obama said. "This is a momentous day in the history of Libya," reiterating to the Libyans "You have won your revolution."
Yes, just like the case is in several other countries including Pakistan, Yemen, and Afghanistan, US engagement in Libya consisted mostly of aerial missions.
More than 70 U.S. aircraft were involved in the Libya operation -- throughout, the U.S. conducted a total of 145 Predator strikes in the country, in addition to thousands of other aerial missions, the last of which brought the final end of Gaddafi
And so a war crime faced by another war crime.
More inhumanity came as Reuters reported on October 23 that "Libyan forces guarding Muammar Gaddafi's body in a cold storage room let in members of the public to view the deposed leader for a second day on Saturday." The lifeless corpse of Gaddafi is put on display for those who still cannot believe that the ill-fated name of Muammar Gaddafi has gone from the pages of Libyan history.
Of course, Western interference in Libya is not expected to go in vain. The West now eyes the lucrative and profitable contracts with the new Libyan government to reconstruct the destructed infrastructure, and exploit its oil riches.
European oil firms which had evacuated their workers from Libya following the eruption of popular uprising in the country are now making attempts to return to war-stricken Libya and derive benefits from its oil sector.
This will of course help them to rescue their dull markets in the wake of growing financial crisis in the West.
Also, the U.S. and NATO allies are jubilant over the prospect of collecting the spoils of war. They control the huge amount of Libya's sovereign wealth deposited in various Western banks. They are poised to collect payment in advance for the overstated costs of the bombardment and destruction of Libyan lives and property. They are set to tighten their control over the oilfields, grab the gold resources and privatize the water system of Libya and cash in on contracts for the reconstruction of what they have destroyed.
Therefore, the West is celebrating their so-called victory which actually has nothing to do with democracy, freedom or justice. It is rather part of a broad strategy and a decades-old agenda to exploit the riches of the country, just like is the agenda related to other countries, where they splash blood and launch wars or interfere in so-called support operations to only seize the wealth lying beneath the soils of these states.
