Damascus, Ali al-Abdullah

The Palestinian Public Struggle Front Secretary General, also Palestinian Squadrons Secretary and Head of the Syrian Preparatory Committee of the Global march to al-Quds (Jerusalem), Khaled Abdul Majeed, confirms that preparations are going on very well and that several activists have arrived in Syria to participate in the whole program of the Global march to al-Quds. Speaking to "al-Intiqad", he pointed out certain sides' attempts to exclude Syria from participating in the Palestine Land Day program have been foiled.

As well, he emphasizes the Syrian government has offered all prerequisites to conduct the program successfully. Here is the interview:

*The Palestine Land Day will be commemorated today. What preparations have you made?

-This year, the Palestine Land Day is going to be distinct from the previous years. In the past six months, representatives of sixty states have formed an international committee preparing for the Global al-Quds March. To participate in the March, activists from all over the world are arriving in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Egypt, occupied Palestine's neighboring countries. Besides, several foreign activists are arriving in the West Bank and al-Quds (Jerusalem).
Syria Prepared to Take Part in Global March to al-Quds

"Millions March for al-Quds" is the name we've chosen since on March 30, millions of Muslims, Arabs, and free-willed people are to march to the nearest point to Palestine. Each of the neighboring countries is to have a program including exhibits and festivals for al-Quds. In fact, the March is going to convey clear political messages regarding the free-willed people's consolidation with the cause of the Palestinians, especially the native citizens of al-Quds. They do consolidate with the Palestinians as the Zionist entity is Judaizing al-Quds, demolishing the Palestinians' houses, and confiscating their lands.

*Have any activists arrived in the neighboring countries?

-Lately we've received 32 activists representing five Asian states. A convoy of 175 activists representing fifteen Asian states is to join then soon afterwards. As well, the International Coordination Committee of the Global march to al-Quds is preparing for the arrival of American, Latin American, African, and European activists in Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt.

*What procedures has Syria made?

-A Syrian-Palestinian committee has been formed in Syria, in charge of which is Head of the Pro-Intifada Syrian Public Committee Dr. Muhammad Mustapha Mero. In two days, the Syrian-Palestinian Committee is to prepare the final program for this international day, which will be of great significance now that Syria and Lebanon, too, are conducting the program. That is, Syria and Lebanon still resist the Zionist scheme; whereas many Arab states have forsaken the Palestinian cause.

*Where exactly in Syria is the March to be set off?

-Well, the grand March is to be set off on Friday in front of Salaheddine al-Ayoubi (Saladin) Statue facing Damascus Fortress. The Syrian command has cooperated with us and has welcomed all foreign delegations arriving in Syria. We are actually making all of the necessary arrangements before they arrive.

*Has the Syrian command made any facilitation?

-Since the very beginning of the Global march to al-Quds Preparatory Committee's meetings, we've met with the fellows of the Pro-Intifada Syrian Public Committee. We've also formed a Syrian committee including public and active figures, as well as institutions like the Union of Writers and Journalists. Having shown their readiness to receive all delegations to arrive, they've provided the prerequisites at the airport; whereas the Preparatory Committee is going to carry out the rest of the required procedures so that the activists perfectly perform their role.

*We've learned certain sides have attempted to exclude Syria from conducting the Palestine Land Day activities. So what can you tell us about that?

-Yes, indeed some political sides have tried to exclude Syria from participating in the Palestinian-Land-Day program, whereby they claim Syria has become insecure. And this actually contradicts with the principles of the International Committee of the Global march to al-Quds; that is, disregarding any political conflicts or interests, the Committee is supposed to make all governments and forces involved throng influential figures to consolidate with al-Quds City.

Thus, we've declared that only Syria can evaluate its interior's situation. As well, every country involved has a preparatory committee that determines the procedures and activities to be conducted. Therefore, the International Committee does not have the right to meddle with this, especially after the recent meeting we've held in Amman, whereby the votes have revealed the majority's refusal to allow the International Committee to make such an exception or generalization on security situations any time. The majority has also demanded that a thorough participation take place.

Dr. Hala al-As'ad is our Syrian representative for the International Committee. As well, we've formed a Palestinian committee of squadrons, forces, and influential sides headed by Dr. Muhammad Mustapha Mero. And we've formed a common committee supposed to keep up with the ongoing activities. The Pro-Intifada Syrian Public Committee has informed us it is ready to make all arrangements required to ensure the success of al-Quds-Day program.
