AI: Bahrain Violations against Protests Continue, Crisis Not Over

Amnesty International (AI) criticized the Bahraini regime for its continuous violations of human rights, and the excessive use of force against peaceful anti-government protesters.
In a report issued on Tuesday, AI stated that the Bahraini government failed to provide justice for the victims of human rights violations, as it didn't meet the findings of the international commission of inquiry.
On this level, Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Amnesty's Middle East and North African deputy director, stated, "The authorities are trying to portray the country as being on the road to reform, but we continue to receive reports of torture and use of unnecessary and excessive force against protests. Their reforms have only scratched the surface."
According to rights groups' investigations, the Bahraini regime failed to prosecute the security forces responsible for all violations against protesters.
"With the world's eyes on Bahrain as it prepared to host the Grand Prix, no one should be under any illusions that the country's human rights crisis is over," Sahraoui indicated in the report.
Moreover, the AI report further urged the al-Khalifa regime to prosecute the senior members of the security forces who were accused of torture and violence. The report also included an appeal to immediately and unconditionally release political prisoners and address the discrimination against the Shiite majority.
