Thousands of Bahrainis took to the streets on Friday in a demonstration called by the opposition to protest against the so-called constitutional reforms announced by the king.

Under the slogan "Sacrifices For Freedom", Bahraini protesters marched the villages outside the capital Manama.
Images posted on the opposition group, "al-Wefaq", Facebook page showed symbolic coffins being paraded carrying pictures of people martyred during protests that erupted in February last year.

"I am Bahraini and the dictatorship does not represent me," said one banner in a picture posted on the social network page. The protest was staged to denounce constitutional reforms ratified on Thursday by King Hamad.

According to the amendments, the king now has to consult the heads of the elected parliament and the appointed Consultative Council before dissolving the legislature.
In a press conference held by Bahrain opposition societies, parties pledged to keep on with their peaceful moves.
"
The new amendments do not meet with the Manama Document which was presented by opposition parties as a roadmap to resolve the political crisis in Bahrain, nor do they meet the seven reform principles announced by the Crown Prince last year", said Abdul-Jalil Khalil, former MP and member of "al-Wefaq".

The reforms "do not reflect the demands of the Bahraini people, who will continue their pro-democratic movement and will not stop at such government game," he added.
