This Tuesday will bring together people of all walks of life across the globe in an attempt to reiterate past events which have been often erased or overlooked in history books. It is of the few moments when like-minded individuals can come together in support of a greater cause.
The Right to Return: Nakba in Australia

On This day (15th May), gatherings will take place in even Western nations, one of which is Australia, in commemorating the 64th anniversary of Nakba. Stories will be told and pleas will be made, with the hope that these calls will not fall on deaf ears.

In Sydney, these commemorations will be held in Sydney's Town Hall, in the Sydney CBD. The Town Hall events are endorsed by "Free Gaza Australia", "Jews against the occupation, Sydney", and "Palestine Action group, Sydney".
There is also an aim to pressure the Australian government against collaboration, directly or indirectly, with the Zionist entity. This has been exacerbated since Bill Shorten, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, led a Trade Mission from Sunday 29th April- 5th May 2012. The night will feature speakers including: General Union of Palestinian Workers; Students for Justice in Palestine - USYD; Unions ACT; and Jews Against the Occupation.
The Right to Return: Nakba in Australia
The commemorations elucidate the hypocrisy of the United Nations resolution 194 and 242, which demand that the ‘refugees' of 1948 have the right to return to their homeland, and live in tranquillity, as emphasised in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Geneva Convention.

After saying sorry to the stolen generations and indigenous people of the land on February 13th 2008 under former Prime Minister Rudd, the Australian government should do whatever is in its power to restore the rights and dignity of the indigenous people of Palestine.

Occupied Palestine remains the final case of oppressive colonial rule which is completely overlooked. American civil rights movements were inspired by Martin Luther king Jr, Quit India campaigns were inspired by Mahatma Ghandi, and Palestine's right to return is yet to be inspired.
