Boroujerdi: Egyptian-Iranian Ties Enhanced, West-Linked Crisis Sees Settlement

Chairman of the Foreign Policy and National Security Committee of the Iranian Shura Council (Parliament), Alaeddin Boroujerdi, confirmed that his countries' relations with Egypt are being enhanced since the downfall of the Hosni Mubarak regime.
Boroujerdi believed that the relations would be restored to normal at the right time, further noting that the crisis with the West concerning his country's program is heading towards "settlement", as the West seeks a solution.
In an interview with al-Intiqad online newspaper, and after the council resumed its agenda following its annual leave, Boroujerdi stated that since the "downfall of the Mubarak regime, the bilateral relations between Cairo and Tehran have been improving."
On this level, he indicated that many Egyptian delegations have visited Iran and that contact between both countries is ongoing. However; Boroujerdi noted that "the visible steps still aren't implemented; like instating the embassy and having an Ambassador", clarifying that the currents relations are spiritual, revolutionary, and doctrinal more than they are political.
"This demonstrates that both revolutionary nations in Iran and Egypt have similar stances. There isn't any rush because the President Mohammad Morssi must settle in his position and solve the parliament crisis. We realize the Egyptian position, and believe the time has come for these relations to go back to normal," the Iranian senior official went on to say.
With reference to the nuclear talks between Tehran and the 5+1, Boroujerdi asserted that "the nuclear issue is old and goes back to ten years," believing that "the current crisis with the West is old [as well], and in fact it needs some time, and a solution cannot be reached in a meeting or two."
"Yet the issue is heading towards settlement, because we possess the nuclear technique and our stance is powerful. Also, the West seeks settlement, and the 5 permanent members in the UNSC are sitting at the dialogue table with Iran," Boroujerdi added.
"This stated that they want to reach a solution, especially that Iran has privileges; including the popular support, the Iranian public opinion's support for the regime, and the constitutional institutions' unity to adhere to Tehran's right in the Nuclear issue," he iterated.
"I believe that in the end, we will reach positive results," Boroujerdi confirmed.
Commenting on the situation in Syria, the latest of which was shooting down a Turkish plane, Boroujerdi stated, "The Europeans and the NATO announced that the issue was an importance event but they refused war, because war means a threat for the region."
"They considered that the issue does not deserve war because it won't serve the interests of the US, Europe, or the NATO; for war will burn down the region, and it won't be in their favor," he stressed.
Moreover, Boroujerdi referred to the Lebanese dialogue, and said that there are some parties who want to "fish in troubled waters", confirming that the national unity and that of the Lebanese territories is very important, and serves Lebanon's interests. He reaffirmed that the internal compatibility is very important for Lebanon, as maintaining stability and co-existence between the different sects, especially at this trembling stage in the region.
