Hizbullah issued a statement saying: "Sunday afternoon, a number of citizens gathered at the intersection of Saint Mikhael in the southern suburb to protest the continued electricity blackouts and the difficult living conditions.
Upon the arrival of a force from the Lebanese Army to disperse the demonstrators and the intervention of Committees from Amal Movement and Hizbullah to contribute in the withdrawal of protesters from the street, a shooting took place that led to the martyrdom of the brother Ahmad Hussein Hamzah who had been working on dealing with the issue. This incident expanded the tension circle, protestation movement and its spreading to different regions.
Tremendous efforts were made to persuade protesters to end their movement, but unfortunately these citizens were subjected to renewed fire attacks, which led to the fall of a number of citizens as martyrs and wounded, and further tension in the street. Some of these victims were working within the framework of Discipline Committees and Civil Defense."
The statement added: "After strenuous efforts were made by all parties to control the situation, calm was restored to the different regions.
Faced with this horrendous crime, we emphasize the following:
First: What took place is an enormous crime committed against people demanding basic living conditions rights, in a situation of economic and social deterioration the authority has sole responsibility for, and for whatever has eventuated from it.
The crime was committed to the tune of threats and intimidation calls made by this authority against those demanding their basic living rights.
This authority has not hesitated to accuse the people of responsibility for their poverty and destitution, for the electricity black outs they live in, for inciting against them in order to implicate the army in a confrontation with the working class people to achieve certain political and security goals.
After committing the crime, this authority started spreading its grudges and dancing on the blood as a further disregard of our homeland and its citizens.
Second: While we hold this ruling de facto power and its institutions responsible for every drop of blood shed, we call on the army leadership to clearly and unequivocally announce the side that killed innocent citizens to the Lebanese people and to the families the martyrs and the wounded victims of injustice.
Did these martyrs and wounded fall by army bullets?
If so, who gave the order for soldiers to shoot?
Who is responsible for committing such a horrible crime?
On whose behalf was it committed?
Or is there another side involved, if so, who is it? Since any masking of the offender or the crime further violates the innocent blood shed, and threatens stability and civil peace in the country.
Third: We will follow this matter until uncovering the identity of the responsible criminals, murderers and instigators, in addition to the sides that stand behind them, because the blood that was shed has its parents and inviolability, and such criminal abusive conduct with people cannot be tolerated.
Fourth: We extend our condolences to the families of martyrs and wish a speedy recovery for the injured, as we together wait for the results of the investigation, which we will follow up vigorously and daily until such efforts yield their outcome.
