Syria: Chemical Weapons Secure, to be Used against Foreign Aggression

Local Editor
Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi stressed Monday that "the country's chemical weapons stocks are secure and would only be used in the case of a foreign attack."
In his press conference, Makdissi assured that "the weapons are under the protection of the Syrian army and would never be used inside Syria."
"They will be only used in case of foreign attack only," he confirmed and noted that " the generals will be deciding when and how we use them."
The Syrian official also highlighted that "the Syrian army is in a state of self-defense and the security situation is much better than before."
At the political level, Makdissi announced his country's rejection a call by the Arab League for President Bashar al-Assad to give up power.
"We are sorry that the Arab League has descended to this level concerning a member state of this institution," he said. "This decision only concerns the Syrian people, who are the sole masters of fate of their governments."
"If the Arab nations who met in Doha were honest about wanting to stop the bloodshed they would have stopped supplying arms... they would stop their instigation and propaganda," Makdissi said. "All their statements are hypocritical."
