Most "Israelis" want Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to resign, an opinion poll showed on Thursday after a key report blasted the 2006 war in Lebanon as a failure but spared him from a roasting.
Asked whether Olmert should resign following the release of the Winograd Commission's report on Wednesday, 57 % said yes, while 33 % said no, according to the poll published in the Maariv newspaper.
The Winograd Commission reported that the 2006 war was a "serious missed opportunity" for "Israel", but said Olmert acted in what he believed was "Israel's" best interests.
The poll, conducted by the Telesker Institute, questioned a representative sample of 500 people and had a 4.5 % margin of error.
The figures are lower than those after the interim Winograd report in April, which blasted the premier for "serious failures" in his conduct during the 34-day conflict against Lebanon's Hizbullah militia.
After the interim findings, between 65 and 73 % of those polled wanted Olmert to step down from the post he officially assumed in May 2006, according to polls in Maariv and two other leading dailies.
