The Syrian envoy to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari confirmed Thursday that "some Lebanese political factions , and not the official state, continue smuggling weapons to Syria."

During the UN Security Council meeting to discuss the Syrian crisis, al-Jaafari highlighted that "when the Lebanese government confiscated weapons from the Libyan ship (Lutfullah 2) prepared for sending to Syria, the issue isn't in the interests of the brotherly relations and ties between the two countries."
"There were seven other ships also carrying arms destined for the armed terrorist groups in Syria," he unveiled.

In parallel, al-Jaafari stated that the Lebanese representative complained about the presence of 20,000 Syrians in Lebanon, but we had once welcomed half of Lebanon's citizens as guests in Syria due to the "Israeli" 2006 aggression against Lebanon."

"At that time, we did not come to the Security Council to ask for any regarding the issue of displaced Lebanese. On the contrary, Syria with its people and state, opened its houses for the Lebanese brothers," the Syrian envoy said.
He also accused Saudi Arabia and Qatar of providing arms to the insurgents inside Syria.

"Syria feels a great bitterness and sorrow when we see some of our brothers living in tents on the border in dreadful conditions," he clarified.
Al-Jaafari further mentioned that "some countries see the humanitarian aid from the perspective of political agendas and can't understand the nobility of this issue away of the employment for its interventionist goals in the affairs of other countries."

"If this meeting was truly dedicated to discuss humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people, why do some people insist on promoting work outside the framework of the United Nations?" he wondered.

He also called on the countries that have welcomed Syrian refugees to "allow" those who want to return their homeland to do so.
