Mikhail Margelov, Head of the International Affairs Committee in the Russian Federation Council, revealed that he agrees with the experts who believe that Saudi Arabia and Qatar are behind the events in Syria and the Arab world.
In an interview with the Russian agency of RIA Novosti on Thursday, the Russian official stated that "the current events in Syria are not only due to internal causes, but also due to geopolitical tension in this part of the world."

"The secular dictatorial regimes in the Arab world, including Egypt and Tunisia have reached a blocked road, not being able to achieve modernization, as a result, they helped in "Islamizing" their countries and the whole region in general," he added.
Talking about the US role in the region, he pointed out that the western countries, particularly the USA, decided to depend on the so-called Moderate Islamists, choosing to go with the flow.
Margelov further added that "it is hard to anticipate about the western policy and it is possible that chaos will be the lifestyle of this part of the world, as fanatic Islamists may be pushed against the moderate Muslims if necessary."
In parallel, the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that there is no alternative to the political settlement to the crisis in Syria, with the inevitable commitment to its sovereignty and the non-interference in its domestic affairs.

"The Russian President's Special Envoy to the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Bogdanov discussed during a meeting with the Syrian Ambassador in Moscow Riad Haddad the situation in Syria," a statement for the Ministry said on Thursday.

The statement added that "the Syrian Ambassador affirmed Syria's readiness to go ahead in this direction, appreciating Russia for sending humanitarian aids to Syria. "
