Syria's Foreign Minister Walid Moallem met with International Envoy for Syria crisis, Al-Akhdar Ibrahimi and discussed his mission in Syria.
According to Syrian news agency SANA, Moallem stressed that the success of Ibrahimi's mission depends basically on stopping the support, funding and equipping of armed terrorist groups, as a way to start the dialogue which the government adopts and the opposition rejects.
The Syrian FM also reiterated Syria's welcome of any constructive efforts exerted by Ibrahimi, and readiness to provide all facilitations to make his mission a success.
In parallel, Moallem met the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, briefing him on the armed groups' attacks against the Syrian public and private properties as well as the infrastructure institutions.
In this context, the Syrian official confirmed that "the economic sanctions imposed by the US and EU are the basic problem behind the Syrian people's livelihood."
"Lifting sanctions is much better than working to deal with their repercussions," he stated.
Also in NY, Moallem met with his Lebanese counterpart Adnan Mansour and discussed the brotherly relations and the latest developments.
"Moallem briefed his Lebanese counterpart on the latest developments pertaining to the mission of the UN envoy and Syria's efforts to make his mission a success in a way that serves Syria's sovereignty and stability," SANA stated.
Moallem further met with Togo Foreign Minister, Elliot Ohin, presenting a review on the latest security developments in Syria, as the latter promised to "convey the reality to the leadership of his country."
Earlier on Friday, Moallem met with the foreign ministers of Iran, Russia and Cuba and Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.
The meetings were attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Fayssal Mikdad, Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari and Foreign Ministry Speaker Jihad Makdissi.
