Ahl al-Bayt Shrines Covered in Black, Syrian Crisis Afflicts Ashoura Commemorations

Damascus - Al-Intiqad Website
Holy shrines of Ahl al-Bayt (family of the Prophet Mohammad pbuh) in Damascus lamented the arrival of the month of Muharram where ‘blood prevailed over sword'.

Al-Intiqad correspondent visited Sayyeda Ruqayya's (AS) Shrine, and noticed that the people in charge of the shrine had traditionally changed the tomb's robe from the inside and outside. They had also hung black flags with Ashoura-related slogans on the shrines' pillars, and hold Ashoura Commemorations daily after dawn prayers.

Syria's current crisis kept Ahl al-Bayt (AS) followers, who annually mourned Ashoura in Sayyeda Ruqayya's (AS) shrine, from attending these commemorations in the shrine, and held central memorials in their neighborhoods.

Furthermore, Sayyeda Zeinab's shrine was covered in black in memorial of Ashoura, and had Ashoura phrases dangling from its entrances, while current events in Syria had seemingly afflicted Ashoura commemorations there.
Consequently, the current crisis in Syria distressed the Muharram memorials held in the holy shrines, preventing Iranian, Lebanese, and Arab Ahl al-Bayt lovers from visiting the holy shrines.
