Salehi Says Iran Supports President Assad Initiative

Iran voiced support on Monday to President Bashar al-Assad's outline which aims at ending the ongoing crisis in Syria, noting that the initiative was comprehensive.
The Islamic republic supports President Bashar al-Assad's initiative for a comprehensive solution to the country's crisis," Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said in a statement on his ministry website.

"Assad's plan includes solutions which reject violence and terrorism and any foreign interference in the country, and outlines a comprehensive political process" to end the conflict, Salehi said.

Earlier on Sunday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad drew the plan of a proposed solution to the crisis in Syria that included three phases; a national reconciliation conference, a new government and constitution, and a general amnesty. However, he demanded regional and Western countries stop funding and arming terrorists first.
