90 Afghans Kept in Britain’s Vamp Bastion

British forces in Afghanistan are holding nearly 90 Afghan nationals in Britain's Camp Bastion in the tary Philip Hammond confirmed the news on Wednesday, alleging that the detentions are legal.
"These are people suspected of murdering British troops, of facilitating or planting or being involved with IEDs (improvised explosive devices)," Hammond claimed.
The detainees' lawyers say they have been held in custody without charge for up to 14 months, which amounts to unlawful detention and internment. Lawyers say the case is against international law and the British constitution.
General Zahir Azimi, a spokesman for the Afghan Defense Ministry, criticized the detentions as "illegal" and "inhuman".
British forces have been based in Helmand province since the US-led war in Afghanistan began in 2001. Some 9,000 British troops are currently stationed in the war-ravaged country.
