British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Wednesday that his country will use its role as host of the G8 group summit next week to try to get both sides in the Syrian conflict to attend the Geneva 2 conference on Syria.

"We should use the G8 to try and bring pressure on all sides to bring about a peace conference, a peace process, and a move towards a transitional government in Syria," Cameron told the British Parliament.

He further added that the Russian President Vladimir Putin will fly to London on Sunday for advance talks about Syria before the summit.

Cameron stressed that Britain had not taken any decision to supply arms to insurgents fighting in Syria against the regime.

The 39th G8 summit will take place in Northern Ireland on the 17th and 18th of June.
Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the UK, the United States, and the European Council will participate in the summit.

In the Queen's speech at the state opening of Parliament in 2012, Elizabeth II said that the UK will "use this opportunity to promote international security and prosperity."
