"Israeli" border guards shot and killed an unarmed Jordanian judge Raed al-Zaytar at the Allenby bridge crossing on his way back to Jordan from the West Bank, spurring outrage across Jordan on Monday.
Al-Zaytar, who is a judge in the magistrates court in Amman of Palestinian origin, was shot dead by the "Israeli" guards.
In a statement, the forces referred to al-Zaytar as a "terrorist."
Later, "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a "statement of regrets," yet with no apology over the shooting.
The statement stated that, "'Israel' regrets the death of Judge Raed al-Zaytar Thursday at the King Hussein Allenby bridge and expresses its sympathies to the people and government of Jordan."
The Jordanian government demanded an "immediate investigation of the incident."
Since the days of the shooting, hundreds of Jordanians have expressed their outrage over the "Israeli" border guards killing of the unarmed judge by holding protests and candlelight vigils, and demonstrators stood before the "Israeli" Embassy to demand its closure and the expelling of the "Israeli" ambassador.
