Further US Military Aid to Egypt

The US Obama administration said it has certified that Egypt is upholding its 35-year-old so-called 'peace' treaty with "Israel," qualifying for some military and "counterterrorism" assistance, via a phone call as a State Department spokeswoman said on Tuesday.
In a telephone call between Secretary of State John Kerry and Egypt's foreign minister Nabil Fahmy, Kerry informed of the decision to send further aid to Egypt.
He further credited the Egyptian government with sustaining its strategic relationship with the United States and fulfilling its obligations to "Israel."
US War Secretary Chuck Hagel also informed his Egypt's defense minister, Col. Gen. Sedki Sobhi, of the decision to deliver Appache helicopters, which "will help the Egyptian government counter extremists who threaten US, Egyptian and ‘Israeli' security," the Pentagon said.
Kerry was to meet Egypt's intelligence chief in Washington on Wednesday.
According to US law, when a military coup occurs in a country, economic and military aid should be cut off. However, the US administration's decision means that the controversial aid will be flowing to the Egyptian military again.
Before last year's coup in Egypt, the US provided Cairo with $1.5 billion a year in aid, of which $1.3 billion was military assistance.
