In a message of solidarity with the Muslim community, citizens of Norwich city in the British central county of Norfolk showered a mosque targeted by vandals with messages of support, to console Muslims and exonerate moderate citizens from any Islamo-phobic attacks.
Unknown vandals recently stormed the Ihsan Mosque in Chapelfield East, Norwich, smashing about 11 panes of glass while the worshippers were inside the building.
According to local sources, the reason for the attack was not known, but many believed that such assaults were related to a rise in Islamophobic sentiments in Britain following the recent wave of attacks in France.
"Unfortunately whenever we have incidents like this, it usually follows something negative about Muslims and Islam in the media," Amal Douglas, a member of the Ihsan Mosque said.
He further explained that Islamophobic hate crimes took many forms, including offensive graffiti, throwing bricks through windows of Islamic centers and even insulting religious values.
Norfolk police said they were still investigating and had not made any arrests.
However, seeing Muslims' shock after the attack, Norwich citizens decided to act. Locals organized the showing of solidarity.
Supporters covered the mosque doors in colored hearts made out of tissue paper which included messages of support of the Muslim community. They had also offered to help raise funds for repair work.
Hence, the reaction was immediately praised by the Norwich Ihsan Mosque as "amazing".
Muslims worldwide condemned the Paris attacks, saying the perpetrators had nothing to do with Islam.
