Nour al-Hoda Saleh

Saudi Arabia is now in need of a "genie" to fulfill its illusions on Yemen. The military, geography, and strategic facts are enough to reveal the destiny of the, Saudi aggression, and affirm its failure. The Kingdom and its allies have failed since March 26th 2015, when "Decisive Storm" was announced, to achieve one of its goals.

The Children of Al-Saud House

Despite doubling its brutal attack force, it was unable to bring down the "Ansarullah" movement, or to reestablish escaped president Abed Rabbo Mansur Hadi's government.

Thus, failure surfaced in Saudi Arabia, especially after military operations resumed under the name "Restoring Hope".

Saudi Arabia, who outdid everyone else in branding itself with aggressive titles, will not be able to change its filthy reputation, not even with a "magic lamp". It will also fail in its attempts to outsmart the international community by announcing its third goal, to bring security and stability to Yemen, thereby exonerating itself of the innocent blood it has shed.

The house of Saud's failure in its aggression against Yemen is not limited to its failure in achieving its futile goals, which have accomplished nothing but the murder of women and children, the destruction of hospitals, and of vital and humanitarian facilities. Rather, it is clearly manifested in its inability to return fire against the Yemeni army, which targeted Saudi military border outposts.

Indicators of Defeat

"The erroneous strategy that Saudi Arabia adopted in its war was based on false calculations, which deprived it of its ability to achieve any of its goals even if it went on for months". This is how Brigadier General, and head of the Middle East Center for Studies and Public Relations, Dr. Hisham Jaber, in an interview with Al-Ahed News, described the Saudi scene. He attributes the aggression's failure to military, geographical, and strategic reasons and elements. Militarily, he sees that reliance upon airstrikes alone is a failure, as "Airstrikes usually support ground forces, and these forces would be somewhat superior or equal to the enemy's".

But this is nowhere to be found in the Saudi-Yemeni military balance.

Jaber, who stresses that the "forces loyal to Saudi Arabia and Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, and some tribes and militias are not militarily equal to the Yemeni army, the Houthis, and their allies, who are much stronger on the ground". He explains the second, geographical element, as he considers that the "nature of Yemeni geography does not allow Saudi forces to enter Yemen, as it is a mountainous area, in which movement is difficult". Jaber substantiates it by referring to the armies that have attempted to enter Yemen before, and have suffered defeat, such as the Egyptian army".

Saudi Arabia's Weaknesses

Saudi Arabia may have an innumerous "arsenal" of weapons in comparison to the weapons and equipment available to the Yemenis, but that does not mean that it is able to achieve victory by virtue of its possession of weapons alone. A weapon is not enough by itself, says Jaber, as the "Army is the combination of troops and equipment, of a combat doctrine, of will and a geography, which when combined together, allow it to vanquish its opponent, and Saudi Arabia lacks all of these qualifications".

Jaber's position is seconded by Yemeni "al-Haqq" party (The Truth) Acting Secretary General Mohammad al-Mansour, who considers that lacking such qualifications weakens Saudi Arabia, and expects the aggression to fail because of their lack of Jihadi doctrine, in addition to their inexperience in combat.

Yemen's Strengths

According to al-Mansour, Saudi Arabia began its aggression against the Yemeni people in order to force political choices upon it. When the people refused, it double its attack to force it to surrender under the threat of the aggression, and become part of its agenda. However, Yemen's resistance and steadfastness took it by surprise. Al-Mansour continues, in his interview with "al-Ahed News", saying that "Yemeni refusal of Saudi guardianship has made a revolutionary people gather its military and security capacities. This people was prepared in capacity for the revolution, willing for sacrifice, and supported by an enduring creed".

Jaber speaks of the strengths Yemenis possess: In his opinion, they possess certain qualifications that have rendered them an unfaltering people, and as such victorious against a brutal aggression. Their "attachment to their land and knowledge thereof, their resolute creed and strong will. All of these factors helped unite different parties in Yemen to face their common enemy and vanquish it".

Dialogue, and the position of both parties apropos

The political solution, which many consider to be a step towards a settlement or understanding between both parties is still struggling with the many obstructions caused by the approach of Saudi Arabia and its followers with regards to the dialogue, which has been to force preconditions on the other party. In this context, Jaber finds it unlikely that Saudi Arabia and its followers would accept a solution that would end the aggression. "Saudi Arabia is not going to negotiate, but to force the application of the Gulf initiative, and Security Council resolution 22/16 whose time has long since passed." Al-Mansour, who does not place much faith in the Geneva dialogue agreed with him, because "the arrangements the UN envoy is working on are only prefaces that do not fall in Yemen's favor".

Al-Mansour expresses his pessimism with regards to the awaited dialogue, as he does not expect that the concerned parties come to any result that would serve Yemen's peaceful and security interests with the aggression ongoing. As for Ansarullah's acceptance of a dialogue without preconditions, al-Mansour reiterates his "adherence to this position to arrive to a balanced and just representation amongst rightful parties, without the unrightful party, represented by Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and his followers, forcing its own terms".
