Canada Commemorates Ashura: Imam Hussein The Model to Humanity

Canada's cold weather didn't prevent Imam Hussein lovers and followers, whether men, women, and even children, from commemorating his martyrdom.
As usual, the commemoration was held in both, Arabic and English.

All along the 10 nights, Ahl al-Bayt [The Prophet's Hose hold ] center in Ottawa, held ceremonies to revive the lessons learned from Imam Hussein's revolution against tyrants.

Meanwhile, " WhoisHussain?" campaign continued its annual activities. However, this year's slogan was "Hussein the Model".

The campaign has focused on the social, moral, and human side in Imam Hussein's [PBUH] life.

In this context, "WhoisHussain?" volunteers organized a donation of blood campaign, candlelight vigil, and in-kind donations and food for the needy. This was accompanied by advertisement, gifts and even roses labeled with Imam Hussein's words he had uttered in Karbala.

An organizer in the campaign, explained to al-Ahed news, that " WhoisHussain " is being held worldwide as a great example to highlight the humanitarian aspect of Imam Hussein, regardless of him being a religious figure or exclusive to a certain group of people.''

"The Hashtag we used along with the designs and logos have successfully been circulating all over the platforms of social media," another added.

The Hashtag of last year was #TeamGiveBack, which highlights the aspect of Imam Hussein giving back to those around him for the greater good of the community.
This year the Hashtag is #HussainInspires, and it highlights all aspects and fields in which Imam Hussein can inspire us.
Examples of the Hashtag being used:
#HussainInspires me to give back to my community, as he did.
#HussainInspires me to be socially and politically active, as he did
#HussainInspires me to give up my social grandeur and break bread with the poor and needy, as he did.
#HussainInspires me to rise against oppression [no matter who is oppressing and who is being oppressed], as he did.
#HussainInspires me to be generous, selfless, and humble, as he was.

According to another volunteer, "Our campaign brought to Ottawa 3 years ago by our brothers and sisters has been very successful in portraying the humanitarian aspect of Hussein, and conveying his message through the various events and activities we had."
"We have given out over 2000 cups of free hot chocolate, and that was a great opportunity to engage in dialogue and conversation with the passers-by who were intrigued by our logo [WhoisHussain], and had many questions, and at times misunderstandings that needed to be clarified."
He further noted: "In addition to that, we organized a blood drive for blood donation, a bake sale, and food donation to the homeless and needy, all prepared by the volunteers that signed up for this in servitude of Imam Hussain and Karbalaa."
