Hizbullah Official Statement, 01-04-2008
On the subject of the 20th Arab Summit held in Damascus on 29-30 March, Hizbullah issued the following statement:
The Damascus summit was held, in view that it was a summit of conjoined Arab action, in an immensely significant political moment on many domains. It was successful despite all intimidation, pressure, and implicit messages dealt a strong blow to all those who bargained and worked on its failure, on top of which is the United States of America. This victory is mainly credited to the Syrian leadership headed by President Bashar Asad who employed his wisdom to transform it into an extraordinary summit that wasn't hindered by lowliness and grudges of some, and the suspicious connections of others.
From our position as a resistance movement in the face of 'Israeli' entity we can only hold tight onto every hand that sincerely attempts to achieve Arab consolidation and active inter-Arab activity. Hence, we welcome every efforts by the Arab states to solve the Lebanese crisis away from foreign interference seeking to hinder any Arab initiative.
To conclude, we also praise the decisions taken in the Arab summit regarding Arab consolidation with Lebanon, its resistance and the steadfastness of its people We assure that the Israeli occupation and the US occupation of some Arab and Islamic states are the source of all our tragedies in this region and therefore we stress the right of Arab and Islamic peoples to resist the occupation.
