At least five people had been injured in the explosion, AFP reported, citing police sources.

Firefighters had been deployed to the scene.

The blast was most probably caused by a gas explosion, according to France Info. Ambulances had been reportedly seen in the area of the incident.

The blast reportedly took place not far from Montparnasse area, on the left bank of the river Seine.

It's in the 6th administrative district of French capital, in close proximity to Ferrandi College.

Plumes of smoke are seen in the photos and videos posted on Twitter.

Press office of Paris police told Sputnik that the reason of the explosion "was a house fire."

"I felt my floor shake and heard a loud noise, then it smelled like smoke outside," Jenna Binion, a local resident, told The Local, "There are a lot of people in the streets and I can hear a lot of sirens."
