Over 6,500 Russian servicemen, 15 warships and over 10 aircraft will hold military drills in the Far East Kamchatka Territory, the Eastern Military District said Monday.
In this regard, District spokesman Capt. 1st Rank Roman Martov specified the grouping of forces in the northeast were completing the next stage of unit and formation combat training for the winter period.
The drills are expected to culminate on April 15-30 across the Avachinsky bay and two training ranges with regional defense formation vessels, rescue and Pacific Fleet maintenance detachments, as well as marine aviation.
"The marines will conduct live fire exercises, defending the coast from a simulated enemy attack. Assault landing companies, combat vehicle crews, mortar, flamethrower, grenade launcher and marine reconnaissance teams will hold maneuverable combat operations," Martov said.
Gvozdika and Akatsia self-propelled howitzers and guns would provide cover for the marines, he added, while the Redut and Rubezh missile systems would be fired at ocean targets from coastal positions.
Naval aviation would seek out, identify and practice bombing the simulated enemy submarines and warships.
Meanwhile, up to 300 munitions and special equipment are planned to join the more than 6,500 servicemen, 15 vessels and over 10 helicopters and planes in the exercises.
