Saudi Detainee Martyred after Being Tortured in Prison

During his detention, al-Hassawi had not been trialed, sources in the Kingdom's Eastern province said.

Primary information related to the martyrdom of al-Hassawi point to torture. However, sources told Arabic language Nabaa TV, that prison authorities refused to tell the martyr's family of the whereabouts of his body, referring them to the district.

Al-Hassawi's case is the fourth of detainees dying inside a security facility.

Medical sources revealed the young man died a week ago, while authorities claimed that a cardiac arrest had been the cause of death, human rights group said.

The Saudi security authorities are trying to evade responsibility by preventing an investigation to uncover the circumstances of the previous cases that claimed the lives of young people by torture in prison.

It is worth noting the number of political prisoners who had been martyred under torture in Saudi prisons, among are: Nizar al-Mohsen, Makki al-Aridi and Jaber Oqaili.

Jaber Oqaili, had been martyred a week after his arrest in Tarot Police Station, Eastern Saudi Arabia, which is the third case of its kind this year.

His martyrdom was preceded by Makki al-Aridi, who also died after being tortured. Al-Aridi's family said they saw torture marks on the martyr's body.
