Vice President of the Higher Shia Islamic Council, Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, on Wednesday said the council was waiting for the committee in charge of drafting the ministerial statement to complete its task.
Qabalan called on Lebanese President Michel Sleiman to interfere in the ministerial statement and expedite the implementation of the Doha Agreement.
"The ministerial statement must be completed because people are waiting for a solution to the economic and livelihood crises and need security, especially after the return of emigrants," he noted.
"We tell the committee that we will not abandon our weapons as long as "Israel" is as an enemy and occupies the Palestinian territories, the Shebaa Farms and seven villages," Qabalan said.
He also noted that the Resistance's weapons were not used against the Lebanese people and in the alleys of Lebanon. "For that reason, we called for the closure of armed offices and the removal of weapons from the Lebanese. It is a big burden and a great worry for us."
"The weapons that defend the land and the army and preserve Lebanese dignity are a necessity and should remain," Sheikh Qabalan commented.
During his daily lesson at the council headquarters, Sheikh Qabalan requested the Resistance's weapons and the army's weapons be considered "twins," stressing that the Resistance's arms were used only against "Israel".
