Head of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, MP Mohammad Raad, on Monday confirmed that the Resistance had no private agenda in Lebanon. "We should agree on the Resistance's role and the Lebanese people's need for this Resistance," he stated.
Its aim, Raad said, was to build a state that would take care of all Lebanese people, regardless of their confessions and regions. The Resistance aimed to protect the interests of citizens and secure Lebanon against "Israel", he added.
During a celebration in Nabatiyeh, Raad also said that the bloc refused all kind of exclusivity and authoritarianism in Lebanon. "We are committed to the Taif Agreement on consensual democracy, and we should reach agreement on all major issues," he told a crowd in the southern Lebanese village.
Raad noted the need to achieve fair, balanced development in all Lebanese regions.
"Self-defense is a sacred and divine right. It is mentioned in the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. For that reason, this issue does not need a ministerial statement, but it was included [in the statement] to save the face of some politicians through their confirmation of the Resistance's role," Raad commented.
"The Resistance is a national necessity, and we will question anyone who is hesitant around its important role," he concluded.
