Vice President of the Higher Shia Islamic Council Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan expressed his astonishment at the controversy over the clause on the Resistance in the pending ministerial statement. "What we need is to preserve the Resistance as an army reserve, to be on the safe side. As long as everybody agree that "Israel" is the enemy of Lebanon, the Resistance should remain a bulwark for the defense of Lebanon," he stated.
Qabalan denounced recent fighting "in the Muslim areas of the North" on Monday, after days of violence between the Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen neighborhoods brought the death toll to a total of 23 people, with more than 100 wounded and 2,000 families displaced, since June .
"This has nothing to do with Islam and is unjustified. Those who stand behind [the clashes] are agents and mercenaries working for the devil, and aim at inciting sedition, raising sensitivities and promoting rancor and hatred among the sons of the same region," Qabalan said during his daily moral lesson.
Sheikh Qablan called on the Lebanese to "learn from the experiences of the past" and recall the victims of such injustice and aggressions.
Qabalan lauded the efforts of the Mufti of the North and Tripoli, Sheikh Malek Shaar, whom Qabalan said was making "every effort to heal wounds."
