Sheikh Qabalan: Resistance΄s aim is to protect and defend Lebanon

The Higher Shia Islamic Council Vice President, Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, on Wednesday reiterated his call for the government to release a ministerial statement that gave all Lebanese their rights and was "fair and just."
Speaking at a celebration of the religious festival Israa wal Mehraj, Qabalan said politicians must be "realistic and fair" as the Resistance's aim was to protect and to defend Lebanon. When the country was safe, he said, their weapons would be surrendered.
The Sheikh also said that the Resistance would not take up arms against Lebanese citizens as it supported the army in guarding the nation's safety and security.
The Resistance, he said, must be a sort of "army reserve." If there was national disagreement, Qabalan added, then a referendum should be issued.
