Hizbullah political bureau official Mahmoud Qmati on Thursday warned against attempts at linking the 2009 parliamentary elections to the Resistance's weapons.
Elections will be held on time and will not be an extension of the current parliament, and the Resistance's arms would only be discussed in national dialogue under the auspices of President Michel Sleiman, Qmati told the Qatari Ash-Sharq daily.
He also underlined the need for the full implementation of the Doha Agreement through adopting an electoral law as soon as possible.
The unformed ministerial statement should also be completed immediately by "adopting convictions acceptable to everyone, so that the cabinet receives the parliament's vote of confidence as quickly as possible," Qmati said.
"The task of Resistance's weapons is not over, and what is required today is the confirmation of its role through Lebanese consensus particularly since not all of our land is liberated and the "Israeli" threat still exists," he added, calling for the adoption of a "defense and liberation" strategy with the participation of all Lebanese.
On the March 14 alliance's fears that there is no guarantee that the Resistance will not use its arms in Lebanon, Qmati said, "The weapons of the Resistance have not been used in internal political affairs at all, and what happened last May is that the Lebanese government made a decision to address when the weapons of the Resistance."
"The weapons of the Resistance have not been used and will not be used to achieve political gains in Lebanon. When it comes to defense, this is not an internal matter," he added.
