Former MP Najib Mikati said that the meeting between a Hizbullah delegation and Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri was a basic step for Islamic reconciliation, first, and for Lebanese reconciliation, second. He said that he hoped the atmosphere of reconciliation spread throughout Lebanon, so that the country could be saved from the dangers it faced. "The choice of agreement and moderation must be adopted at all times, and Lebanon cannot be ruled, except through moderation separate from the logic of majority and minority," Mikati said, adding that "no one can monopolize public services."
In a press release issued on Wednesday, Mikati said that it was imperative that all Lebanese leaders realized that any escalation could undermine dialogue, and that Lebanon can only be ruled through consensus and the making of concessions. "So why do opponents head toward dangerous escalation when the end is known? Was it necessary to lose all the innocent victims, and destroy our weak economy?" Mikati asked.
Mikati said that even if it was agreed that time heals all wounds, it is necessary to take practical step to bring about reconciliation. Mikati said that "it is everybody's destiny to resort to dialogue and understanding."
