Jumblatt Calls for Consensus on Defensive Strategy to Confront any "Israeli" Aggression

The head of the Democratic Gathering MP Walid Jumblatt said that "Israel's" renewed threats requires establishing an atmosphere of reconciliation in Lebanon and reaching national consensus on a defensive strategy that enhances the ability to confront any aggression." In his weekly column for Al-Anbaa on Monday, Jumblatt recalled the occasion of October 6, 1973 when Egyptian forces regained their land by force. "On this occasion, we salute Arab armies that broke the legend of the invincible army and established a path opposite to that of defeat and surrender."
Jumblatt renewed his criticism of "Israel's" stance against Lebanon. "With all these successive defeats of "Israel" in Lebanon, ["Israel"] today renews its threats against Lebanon," he said. Jumblatt also called for a "climate of reconciliation" in Lebanon in the face of some "elements of war" in "Israel", who, Jumblatt said, were positioning Lebanon as "Israel's" enemy
The Progressive Socialist Party leader also commented on the global financial crisis, saying that the Lebanese Central Bank and financial experts had all taken appropriate measures to curb the effects of the crisis on Lebanon's markets and banking sector. "Lebanon does not need more financial and social problems...Our general debt requires radical and bold decisions and solutions to curb its dramatic and fast increase."
