What makes the pro-"Israeli" Zionist community in the UK flame up with rage at the visit of a Lebanese PHD holder to attend a "Stop the War Coalition" peace conference in central London? What makes this same community refrain from commenting on the cancellation of a visit to the UK by a senior "Israeli" official, fearing arrest over his involvement in killings?
In our world of contradictions, it's the same unanswered question about why a victim should be treated as a killer and vice versa. Well, the intellectual and PHD holder happens to be Ibrahim Moussawi, the chief editor of the pro-Hizbullah weekly "Al-Intiqad" and the "Israeli" senior official is Public Security Minister Avi Dichter, although a comparison between them would be unfair.
Henry Grunwald, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, described Dr. Moussawi's visit to London as the "Moussawi case."
"The Mousawi case seemed to us to represent a clear example of when exclusion would be warranted and this view appears to have been shared by some in government. Critically, however, the Home Office has come to a different view and they need to explain why, and how their decision sits with a declared intention to fight extremism and incitement."
Dr. Moussawi is also a former chief editor of the French and English News bulletins on Al-Manar. He was in Britain to speak at a Stop the War Coalition conference, entitled "World Against War," last week.
In a statement, Grunwald lashed out at the conference and Al-Manar. He accused the channel of promoting "Hizbullah's jihadist ideology and virulent anti-Semitism, It is hard to understand how a senior official from this channel can be considered an appropriate person to enter the country, never mind to speak at a so-called peace conference."
Speaking at the conference, Mousawi described Hizbullah as a "social network that helps children and the elderly." He also told the participants: "I don't occupy anybody's land, don't attack anybody, steal anybody's water, steal their soil, but this is what the "Israeli" occupation is doing."
During the 2006 "Israeli" war against Lebanon, Al-Manar headquarters in Beirut's southern suburb was completely destroyed, drawing widespread condemnation by international media to the "barbaric act" against a Lebanese media outlet.
As Dr. Moussawi was in Britain for a peace conference, Dichter was cancelling a trip to the UK over concerns he would be arrested due to his involvement in the 2002 bombing of a residential complex in occupied Palestine to assassinate a senior resistance official. 15 people including women and children were killed. The Foreign Ministry wrote Dichter that it did not recommend he visit Britain because of a high probability that an extreme leftist organization there would file a complaint, which might lead to an arrest warrant.
There is a deep gap between promoting peace and promoting murder, yet the world is full of contradictions.
