Speaker Nabih Berri said that he was "cautiously" and "anxiously" observing what was taking place beyond the Southern territories. He called for alertness to "Israeli" activity and to "Israel's" "repeated and escalating" threats against Lebanon.
Berri also expressed annoyance about the "intentional" tension in the political discourse lately which was "for pure electoral goals."
In interviews with An-Nahar and As-Safir dailies on Wednesday, Berri said that the Lebanese should look at "Israel's" statements, conclude whether they was for electoral goals, and look at what some suggested in Lebanon and conclude whether they too were for electoral goals.
He said that "Israel" was making every effort to achieve popular unity to defeat Lebanon, while some intentionally "bring about certain proposals that actually lead to undermining our unity, resistance, and defense strategy," adding that he thought those proposals were over after the Taif Accord.
Berri told An-Nahar that "Israel" would not let the Lebanese agree and cooperate. Berri said that from national dialogue in 2006 until the current dialogue sponsored by the president, there was agreement that discussions were not sacred. However, he said, it was agreed that divergence of opinion should be hidden.
