More than 90,000 people in France have died due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to the latest figures released by the Health Ministry.

France has recorded at least 90,146 fatalities since the start of the health crisis last March, of which 64,835 occurred in hospitals and the rest being tabulated at nursing homes.

The number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care, which is still on the rise, exceeded 4,000 as of Friday.

With 306 new admissions in the past 24 hours, there are now 4,033 COVID-19 patients in intensive care, according to the ministry.

This is the first time since the end of November that there have been more than 4,000 patients in emergency care.

However, this remains below the peak of the first wave when 7,000 people were forced into intensive care.

Overall, 24,749 patients are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 symptoms, a figure down slightly from the previous day, with 1,448 new admissions.

Some 4,500,000 people have been given the first dose of the vaccine in France, or 6.80% of the population while more than 2,150,000 people have been given the second dose of vaccine, according to sortiraparis.com.
