AL-QUDS--Lebanese forces and a Zionist regime`s military patrol exchanged fire Wednesday on a shared border after the patrol crossed a security fence near the border village of Maroun Cape.
"An Israeli bulldozer crossed into south Lebanon tonight (Wednesday). Our forces opened fire at it. It pulled back and there was a brief exchange of fire," a Lebanese army spokesman said.
The fighting has been the first such incident since Lebanon deployed regular forces after the occupation regime`s offensive against Hezbollah.
Lebanese army said there were no casualties in the clash.
A spokesman for UNIFIL, a UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, said they characterized the clash as a serious incident between the Lebanese army and the Israeli occupation regime`s forces.
Lebanon deployed its army along the frontier as part of the UN-brokered ceasefire that ended a 33-day offensive against Hezbollah last summer.
The Zionist sources said the operation was conducted to search for explosive devices that had been planted inside Lebanon. Israeli forces withdrew from the border early Thursday.
