The United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) violated its mandate. One of the German battleships deployed within Lebanese territorial waters to monitor and prevent weapons from reaching the resistance, carried on board an Israeli reporter for the Yediot Aharonot daily who made a report about his tour and backed it with footage. This new violation of the Lebanese sovereignty was this time made with an Israeli camera that captured several close pictures of the Lebanese coastline and under the eyes of the UNIFIL. The Israeli reporter concluded that until now the UNIFIL has not discovered any arms shipments, even though Israeli intelligence argue that Hezbollah has restored its full rocket power which he had before the Israeli Summer war against Lebanon. "About 1,600 trade ships have been thus checked. Only three times has the suspicion of UN soldiers been raised so far. But all three cases turned out to be unrelated to terrorist activity," the Israeli reporter said.
On the other hand, some neoconservatives in the United States acknowledged the victory of Hezbollah on Israel, during the recent war. According to Yediot Aharonot, they expressed frustration at the way Israel began the war and the result it eventually reached at the end of this war. Israeli expert in Middle Eastern affairs, Mraz Wurmzer, whose husband David Wurmzer works as US vice President Dick Cheney`s advisor for Middle Eastern affairs, said that it`s the first time Israel is defeated. Wrmzer told Yediot that the neoconservatives were behind giving Israel additional time during the war, thinking this would enable Israel to secure victory. She also revealed that the neoconservatives had hoped that Israel would attack Syria instead of Hezbollah, given the "positive effect" this would have on both Israel and the US in the region.
