The past broke off from the present on May 25, 2000 to date the miracle of forcing out the "Israeli" army from the vast majority of occupied Lebanese lands came true. It was the day when Lebanon through its resistance defeated the "legendary" army"; something Arab states failed to achieve and UN Security Council resolutions left undone.
When "Israel" invaded Lebanon in 1982, the UN Security Council issued resolution 425 binding "Israel" to withdraw immediately from this Arab country. The resolution was never implemented and "Israel" was forced out of this country under the strikes of the resistance.
On the eve of May 25, 2000, the defeated "Israeli" army closed the gate behind the last occupation soldier confirming Hizbullah had achieved the impossible. The detainees at the Khiam detention center were still unaware of what`s happening. The collaborators had isolated them from the whole world. They were surprised to see their relatives and resistance fighters at the doorsteps of their tiny cells shouting "God is the greatest" while hammering the seals with everything in reach. This historic scene of victory and pride was reversed on the Lebanese side of the border, where the fleeing collaborators who sought to take refuge in "Israeli" occupied territories were being shot at, cursed and beaten by the army which they faithfully served for more than 20 years.
It was the first time in history that a triumphant resistance force leaves those who collaborated with the enemy to be dealt with by the judiciary. Hundreds of collaborators surrendered to the resistance which in turn handed them to the Lebanese army, other fled to occupied Palestine, where they were humiliated, beaten and neglected. The czar and once powerful leader of collaborators, Antoine Lahd, was the first to abandon his subjects, and is now running a small restaurant in occupied Palestine. He`s become known as the "Hommos seller." Collaboration can carry the death sentence in Lebanon, but those who have surrendered received minimum sentences, between 6 months and 3 years in prison!
On May 26, Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah stood in the town of Bint Jbeil overlooking occupied Palestine and challenged the defeated enemy as he dedicated the triumph to whomever contributed in realizing it; those who fought, died, shed blood, stood steadfast and supported the resistance even with a prayer. The Cabinet of the then Prime Minister Salim Hoss announced the 25th of May of every year a day for the Resistance and Liberation. However the government of Fouad Saniora, which has lost its legitimacy, cancelled this day from the list of holidays. The ruling bloc of Saniora announced the 25th of May, 2007 a holiday marking the "Day of Liberation", but deleted the word "Resistance." This is the same resistance that nine months ago inflicted the "Israeli" army yet another defeat during the 34-day "Israeli" war against Lebanon.
