Moussawi: UN Secretary-General´s report deepens loss of confidence in the International Organization´s officials

Hizbollah Site Staff, 2-7-2009
Member of Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Nawwaf Moussawi, considered the report issued by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1701 without anything new or surprise worth mentioning.
In his report he has for the tenth time renewed the invitation to Lebanon and "Israel" to take advantage of the UNIFIL deployment in South Lebanon, in order to bring focus back on outstanding issues in order to achieve a permanent cease-fire and a long-term solution.
Instead he further elaborated on lessening the gravity of the repeated "Israeli" violations of Lebanese sovereignty, by air, land and sea, and went as far as saying the UNIFIL troops have not detected any significant breaches of resolution 1701.
In his report he also distanced himself from issuing any direct criticism of "Israel" on the issue of "Israeli" spying on Lebanon and its spy-cells, which he only refers to in a passing remark, noting that UNIFIL has been unable to detect any illegal breaches of the blue line, and can not confirm or deny the occurrence of infiltrations, facilitated by "Israel", for spies accused of spying on its behalf.
MP Moussawi said "the Secretary-General did not pay real care to a known reality manifested in the 'Israeli' incursions of the Lebanese sovereignty by air, which amounted to more than 10 thousands breaches since 14 August 2006 so far, at 10 violations per day according to the international forces. Nor do we see the UN forces carry out necessary steps to stop such infiltration, which is a violation of Lebanese sovereignty and a challenge to 1701 Resolution.
Furthermore, the UN SG did not clearly answer to his organization's inability to oust the "Israeli" occupiers from the northern half of al-Ghajar town.
On the other hand, Ban Ki-moon does not hesitate to express concern over the resistance weapons, which brings us to the question asked by every Lebanese, especially the people of the south, who only know the UN for its little effectiveness and its vast amount of impotence and failure."
Moussawi added "This report deepens loss of confidence and widens the gap, and should the UN continue down this path of imbalance it could lose its role, which ought to be and we hope it to be effective. We advise the UN Secretary-General to take concrete steps to restore in his position and the UN's the confidence that was shed in Gaza and Qana, and continues to be shed in al-Ghajar and the Lebanese airspace.
We also hope this issue raises the concern of the SG, rather than concern himself where he ought not to be.
