Syria, “Israel” Discuss US-Supervised ’Special Operations Room’ in Jordan

Syria and the “Israeli” occupation discussed establishing a US-supervised “special operations room” in Jordan during high-level talks aimed at easing tensions following recent “Israeli” attacks on Syrian territory.

A Syrian delegation led by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani met a senior “Israeli” delegation in Jordan on Sunday in talks mediated by Washington and hosted by Amman. The Syrian delegation also included the heads of Syria's general and military intelligence services.

According to Syria's SANA news agency, the talks focused on de-escalation following recent “Israeli” bombardment of Syrian territory, rising tensions in southern Syria, and efforts to support stability in Syria and the wider region.

The discussions also addressed efforts to bring Turkey and “Israel” closer in their positions and prevent tensions between them from spilling into Syrian territory.

Meanwhile, AFP, citing informed sources, reported that al-Shaibani and Mossad chief Roman Gofman discussed creating a “special operations room” in Jordan under US supervision.

The proposed mechanism would reportedly coordinate field-level measures to prevent military confrontation between “Israel” and Syria or Turkey inside Syrian territory.

The talks came days after al-Shaibani told Reuters that communications between Damascus and "Tel Aviv" had been suspended following the “Israeli” strike on Abu al-Duhur airbase.

He said broader negotiations had also been halted since the war on Iran, while expressing hope that talks could resume toward a security agreement requiring the withdrawal of occupation forces from Syrian territory.

“We do not trust 'Israel' currently,” al-Shaibani said, while stressing that contact remained necessary with a party he described as constantly threatening Syria's security.

Despite the reported talks, “Israeli” attacks have continued. “Israeli” War Minister Yisrael Katz claimed Saturday that the occupation had warned Syria before striking Abu al-Duhur, citing intelligence about alleged Turkish activities that could “endanger 'Israel's' security.”

US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack said the strike had nearly pushed “Israel” and Turkey into direct military confrontation. The Jordan talks also followed another “Israeli” strike on what the occupation described as a militant target in southern Syria.

Since the December 2024 overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, “Israel” has carried out hundreds of strikes across Syria and deployed forces into a UN-patrolled buffer zone on the occupied Golan Heights, alongside repeated incursions deeper into Syrian territory.

The occupation has said it intends to maintain troops in a “security zone” in southern Syria while seeking a broader demilitarized area.
