Hizbullah Statement on the factions´ meeting in LAI Director´s Office in Beirut

In keeping with the conciliatory atmosphere between the leaderships of the parties and the main movements and currents in Beirut and the convergence meetings between them, the officials of the following parties (Mr. Maher Abul Khudoud-the Future Movement Representative, Mr. Ali Jaber- Amal Movement Preparation & Direction Official, Mr. Imad Kahloul- Hizbullah Liaison Committee Official) held a meeting on the invitation of the Chief of the Lebanese Army Intelligence bureau (LAI) in Beirut, Colonel George Khamis present, to develop a vision and proposals for the transfer of the meeting atmosphere to their popular and party support bases, in order to lift tensions off the street, and return cordiality between the population of Beirut city and its neighborhoods.

They agreed to the following points:

1. Emphasis on the central role of the Lebanese Army in the solution of any incident, keeping in with its responsibilities of maintaining the security of citizens.

2. Emphasis on the need to complete the removal of party's pictures and slogans from the streets of Beirut.

3. Transfer this conciliatory atmosphere to party's cadres and on to the grass roots.

4. Hold meetings between the cadres of these parties and subsequently run joint tours in public places, especially in sensitive areas.

5. Remove political cover off any person instigating problems or directly or indirectly interfering; with a view of containing any incident, and preventing incitement.

6. Immediate and rapid treatment by the security forces of any unfolding security event and to limit its treatment within the scope of the area of the incident.

7. Conduct reconciliation meetings between rival families and provide the climates for the return of any family that had to leave their home during the incidents.
