Member of Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Sayyed Nawwaf Moussawi, criticized the United Nations and the international forces operating in southern Lebanon for the spectator role it plays before the continuing explosions of cluster bombs dropped by "Israeli" forces on Lebanese civilians during the July 2006 aggression, where it continues to claim more innocent victims, the most recent of whom were two children brothers in the southern town of Tuleen wounded by a cluster bomb which exploded as they gathered firewood.
MP Moussawi asked the UN, who is very keen on the implementation of Resolution 1701 and which recently upon hearing an explosion in Khirbet Silem town, it immediately acted on investigating the matter.
Moussawi asked if this UN and the international forces today heard the exploding cluster bomb that wounded two children? And what have they done in this regard? Is it not their responsibility to work on clearing the land of cluster bombs in the south? Is this not a deadly weapon? Isn't this weapon supposed to be sought out and removed so as our fields do not become killing fields?
We do not see this institution take any actions nor has it intervened with ‘Israel' to provide maps, and the maps they said ‘Israel' provided a week ago are incorrect, why doesn't the UN and the international forces move on obtaining maps of the territories ‘Israel' bombed with internationally banned bombs? Why does it not allocate one of its units to remove the bombs on the grounds since their removal is part of the implementation of Resolution 1701?"
Moussawi called on the caretaker Government to put pressure on the UN to shoulder its responsibilities to work on the removal of these cluster bombs, because we do not want to see the efforts of the international forces go in the one direction of achieving "Israeli" interests.
