Member of Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Nawwaf Moussawi, commented on the contents of the latest report by the international envoy Terje Roed-Larsen, saying: "Once again we stand before a report prepared by an officer known for taking the ‘Israeli' side, with his reports always adopting ‘Israel's' views."
Moussawi said: "In the first instance this report is placed in opposition to national reconciliation, which forms the basis of the Lebanese constitution," pointing to "As usual the report deliberately classifies the resistance as a militia, while the Taef Accord clearly discerned between what was militia to be disbanded in 1992, and what was to be the adopted ‘procedure' for removing ‘Israeli' occupation, as per the third section of the Taif Accord under the paragraph on ‘Israeli' occupation."
In this regard, MP Moussawi pointed out that "The report's classification of the resistance being a militia is the antithesis of the Taif Accord and opposes the Lebanese point of view, which says that the resistance is a legitimate right if not a national duty."
Moussawi paused at the report's considering Lebanon's right to defend its territory as ‘a regional threat', wondering at the same time "Why the report does not deal with the fact that ‘Israeli' hostility has been the basis of instability that hit the region, since the start of the Zionist movement's activities in it."
Moussawi said the report appears to provide justification for the "Israeli" violations by its inclusion under the viewpoint that such violations are "for security reasons."
Moussawi added saying: "The report is once again biased to the ‘Israeli' point of view, and touches on the Zionist violations with contrived words or justificatory logic."
