Hizbullah Calls for Combating Famine in East Africa, Somalia
Commenting on the tough humanitarian situation witnessed in the East African region due to the drought causing famine, Hizbullah issued the following statement:
Once again the tough climate strikes East Africa, leaving the people there, especially in Somalia, in a state of severe hunger and destitution, which has led to many deaths, as a result of mal nutrition and food shortages.
The drought that the East African area suffers from is not only contained by lack of rain and water loss, but it is also the drought of human feelings of capable and wealthy countries and peoples, which leave the underdeveloped countries overtaken by death, poverty, hunger, and ignorance.
The Western countries that always claim care for humanitarian issues stand indifferent and with total disregard, before the tragedy of the Somali people and their neighbors; however they only voice stances that do not feed a hungry mouth.
Meanwhile, any effective measure to diminish the tragedy and decrease the number of deaths among innocent women and children who have fell victims to regional and international conflicts that hit their country is absent.
Moreover, the International organizations concerned of tackling such dilemmas have flagrantly failed to take care of this humanitarian crisis. These organizations have not done the minimum required to reduce the suffering of the people inflicted by famine.
Such failure stems from Western countries' hegemony, as these plunder the riches of the world and the wealth of Africa, by that preventing the organizations from carrying out their original duty of saving the people, and turning them into onlookers on the famine victims instead.
Hizbullah thus expresses deep solidarity with the victims of this new humanitarian catastrophe, and calls upon the countries of the world, relief organizations, concerned committees, and the people of righteousness and goodness to hurry for the relief of the people of the affected region. Hizbullah also urges all concerned bodies to give them a hand as to be true examples of taking responsibility, in a world where personal and private interests have become dominant.
