Hizbullah Slams Jones’ Burning Copies of the Holy Quran
Commenting on the US pastor Terry Jones' burning of copies of the Holy Quran and streaming it live over the internet, Hizbullah issued the following statement:
The American Pastor Terry Jones who had burned a copy of the Holy Quran perpetrates the same crime again; burning several copies of the Holy book and streaming it live over the internet.
This barefaced crime expresses the antagonism ingrained in [Jones'] the zealot's heart against Islam and the Holy Quran. It also stands as a provocation to spread hatred against Islam among the West.
Jones' burning of the Holy Quran last year was deemed an impetuous act at first. But he burned copies of the Holy Quran again this Saturday, which coincided with total silence of the concerned officials in the US and the world, and overlapped with the burning of Holy Quran copies in the US military bases in Afghanistan. This intersection implies the process is not a sole incident but rather is a systematic sacrilegious course adopted to desecrate the Holy book of Muslims and violate its sanctity.
Hence, Hizbullah condemns this profane crime which targets the sacredness of the Holy Quran and holds US authorities totally responsible; whether due to its suspicious silence, or its slackness in taking action to prevent people like Jones from desecrating the Holy Quran.
Hizbullah calls on the Arab and Muslim peoples, the people keen on sanctities, and those who reject irreverence of religions to hold a broad campaign to condemn this criminal act, and to raise voices against such actions that sow division among the people and promote ideas on clashes of religions and civilizations instead of calling for peaceful and mutual living.
