Iran Urges US to Change Behavior, Citing Distrust

Iran's top security official says Tehran remains distrustful of the United States and has urged Washington to change its behavior and implement its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Mohsen Rezaei made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, in Tehran on Monday.

Rezaei said Washington must take practical steps to implement the provisions of the Pakistan-brokered MoU signed between Tehran and Washington in June. He also stressed that Iran maintains tight security control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Munir highlighted Pakistan's efforts toward securing the agreement and reiterated the strong ties between Iran and Pakistan, noting that Islamabad has worked to strengthen security along their shared border.

The 14-point Islamabad MoU, signed on June 17, called for an end to hostilities, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and further negotiations toward a final agreement.

Tehran has since suspended its obligations under the framework, accusing Washington of violating its provisions through aggressive actions and bad faith.

Munir's visit highlights Pakistan's role as a mediator seeking to preserve the agreement and prevent further escalation. Earlier Monday, he also met with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
