Berri: Cabinet Session This Week Must Finalize Issue of False Witnesses

Local Editor
Speaker Nabih Berri told As-Safir newspaper in an interview published Monday that this week's cabinet session must finalize the issue of "false witnesses."
It is no longer tolerable to keep postponing the issue, said Berri. He also said that the March 8 alliance calls for transferring the false witnesses' case file to the Justice Council. The issue should be put to a vote if ministers do not agree on it, he added. Berri stressed the Opposition still was committed to the issue of false witnesses.
However, according to the speaker, resorting to the normal judiciary will complicate things. Berri said that some judges in the normal judiciary are linked to the issue of "false witnesses."
In similar remarks to An-Nahar newspaper, Berri said "the door is open to the Government during this week" to try to solve the issue.
He uncovered that President Michel Suleiman was seeking an exit to this crisis.
Furthermore, Berri stressed that "The Prime Minister himself talked about the false witnesses' file and acknowledged it."
