US Officials: We Are All the Way with the STL Even if This Leads to Lebanon Instability

US officials in Washington said miscalculation by the Saudis of the reality of the situation could lead to potential problems in the next phase.

The officials said Riyadh is being "directed" by Syrian President Bashar Assad and considers that a plan to separate Syria from Iran reached nowhere. 

The visit of Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman to Lebanon was a response to the visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The officials told As-Safir newspaper in remarks published Tuesday that Feltman's visit came to reiterate Washington's position on the International Tribunal and its support for the work of the Court "even if this led to Lebanon's instability and was opposed by Saudi Arabia."
